My oils are done primarily on location wherever my travels take me and are an expression of mood and emotion manifested through the beauty of the landscape. A deep desire to partake in a dialogue with nature and a quest to infuse a moment of truth within the canvas is why I paint. This spontaneous process invigorates the work and is imbued with the spirit of nature as it is created in communion with the wind and sunlight itself.

"Afternoon at the Observatory"

This painting was done on the Wesleyan University campus in Middletown, CT. The Van Vleck Observatory is seen in the background and a student taking a break on the lawn. There were so many students around while I was painting, the hill was a buzz of activity and surprisingly, no one asked a single question that day!

"Red Barn at Ashlawn Farm"

With this painting, I set out to use bold bravura brushwork and capture the essence of this red barn at Ashawn Farm in Old Lyme, CT. This barn has since collapsed and a new one is currently being erected.

"After the Rain"

This was painted during and after a light rain at "The Hart House" in Old, Saybrook, CT. It is always interesting to me to paint on overcast days where the shadows are warm and the lights are cool. The ground colors are also very saturated with color as well on these days.
