This painting is composed of many layers of small changes in color that make the painting glow with a golden light from within. It was executed using both brush work and the palette knife. Swept Away In Sedona

This large painting is a composite of several well known Sedona sites including the chapel area (the two nuns),the view from the chapel patio towards the Bell Rock Vortex area, and the mountainous landscape. It had sweeping brush strokes that lead you through the painting. A combination of blues and sunset colors predominate. The scene is painted on the sides of the piece so a frame is not needed.

Salmon River Reflections

Winter Inspiration

This painting was inspired by my love of winter having grown up in New England. As Robert Frost would say "you can't get too much winter, in the winter". The trees have a thick, impasto texture and were executed with a palette knife technique using oil and encaustic (cold wax) that acts as a permanent perservative. I've been using this technique for more than twenty years. It eleminates the need for varnish, that yellows with time. I teach workshops using this palette knife technique and am in the process of making an instructional video.
