Silver Dress

Silver Dress floats above small beads strung between two nails in the central panel of this multi-panel, colorful composition. Nine-Patch series are made up of nine separate 6 inch panels assembled on one thin masonite backing board. Sides are wrap painted to coordinate with front panel colors. Washy layers and glazes of paint are used to create mysterious and changeable color, and panels are arranged in dynamic compositions to support one another formally, and emotionally.

Locust Tree

This study of a locust tree in our yard is from early fall. The leaves are beginning to dry, and I used a cool gray-blue to make a silhouette style image of them. The atmosphere around the tree branches is white, pale blue and pale pink.

Ash Tree, late summer

This study of the young ash tree in our back yard is created in layered washes on an 18" wood panel with deep sides, painted to coordinate with front blues. Green, ochre, and cobalt are the primary colors. Pencil sketch lines are visible under paint.
