Wolfsong

wolf song was painted on the back yoke for a western dress, though when I finished this piece I found it too dark for the gold colored deerskin dress, and repainted it in lighter colors. I still really love the impact of this piece. it is painted with acrylic fabric paints on leather and heat treated to make it permanent and flexible. the paint sinks into the leather becoming part of it and takes on the same characteristics as leather. this type of painting is only done on top grain leather. this piece is the second leather painting I had ever attempted to do at the time, while developing this method and technique of painting. Hope you enjoy wolf song and the song it shares.

Hearts in four directions

Hearts in four direction is hand painted on a native American two sided 22" rauw hide hand drum with acrylic airbrush fabric paints, round sable brushes and heat treated to make it permanent. One of the reasons I use airbrush paint is for it's finer texture/structure and flexibility on leather, the paint sinks into the leather as it were and takes on many of it's characteristics, that I have found better suited to leather then the conventional acrylic paints. the animal portraits chosen was for a number of reasons some of which are the four seasons, night and day and they were four of the animal totems of a friend through whose eyes have opened mine to new views and learnings. the back side of the drum depicts the tracks of the wolf and leopard and two primary feathers of the eagle and owl that I was unable to show here but is ever present in my art. hope you enjoy the Heart in four direction, thank you for viewing.

Bright Flame of Winter

This is the first of the four seasons series, Bright Flame Of Winter is painted on a porcelain plate and fired six times between layers this piece is not quit finished yet as the raised past still needs to be added, this is used to enhance the white and give the snow some definition. the paint used is china over glaze powder that is ground very fine and mixed with oil to a tooth past like thickness . the brushes need to be well oiled and then pressed out to get rid of the access oil in the brush to much oil and your paints could run when firing. just a very small amount of paint is needed to much and the paint could pop off .
love the beauty of the cardinal's bright red feathered plumage, you are so lucky to have that bright flame of winter in your country, sadly we do not see them in Europe but we do have our red breasted cheeky Robins, much smaller then their north American counter parts. please be sure to view the high quality enlargement, Hope you enjoy viewing Bright Flame Of Winter as I've had painting him. thank you for viewing. :-) nighthawk

Spirit of Winter

The beautiful and elusive snow-leopard portrayed on a 14 by 11 inch tile. Was my attempt to capture the soul and spirit of this magnificent creature in it's natural habitat. Painted with china paints on a porcelain tile and fired seven times between layers to get the finished result. Eyes that captivate. original is framed with matting.

Emerald Hypnotist

The hypnotic eyes of this rudy Somali cat were so mesmerizing that it was hard to look away, and one of the main reasons that I was more or less compelled to paint her portrait. Somali's are the long haired version of the Abyssinian cats and are so closely related that they are often cross bred to keep the lines fresh. when Abby's were first recognized and bred some times a long haired variant would turn up in a litter , in those days these kittens would be either euthanized or given away as pets by the breeders as they thought that they were not pour and was hushed up. thankfully some thought them beautiful and started breeding them later to be recognized as the Somali we see and love to day. these beautiful half long haired cats are found like the Abbeys in several colors Rudy being the original color there is now sorrel, blue, black silver, fawn, sorrel silver etc. the markings are striking as they are one of the few domestic cats that only have the tabby markings on the face the rest of the coat is ticked the only other single strip is down the tail ending in a black point. they carry the tufted ears of their wild ancestors with black boots and footpads, their undercoat is a rich copper red. they have a temperament much like dogs and are known to learn basic obedience, retrieve object, like water, follow you around, and are very people orientated. I have breed these cats for many years and am still astonished by their intelligence and lively practical joke nature.
Emerald Hypnotist was painted on a small tile with oil based china paints in layers and fired six times to achieve the finished result.
fram price 255 dollers was not included in the price and should be added to the total with the shipping and handeling cost. total size with fram is aprox 14/18 inches.
