Born in 1949. I started painting watercolor paintings at the age of eight in Victoria, B.C. in Beacon Hill Park. The second week of an art class, I couldn't locate the rest of the painting class. I went back to the park each week and taught myself how to paint watercolors. I became a completly self taught artist. I sold my first painting at about thirteen years old. A major collector for the Oakland Museum, purchased three of my large watercolors when I was sixteen years old. I won an art contest when I was seventeen that represented the state of California and a pen and ink drawing of mine traveled to New York and three other major cities in a Hallmark art show. Alot of time has pasted between my youth and 2012. I have been painting for over 55 years now. I think I may still have some magic left. Watch for sixteen new watercolors painted so far this year. Giclees will be available and another one man show soon. I hope you more than like my art. Thanks for your interest.

Stolen Art - I didn't think this would happen to me.

Yes, I now have a stolen watercolor painting to find. It was ripped off while I was moving from Boise Idaho and Eugene Oragon. The painting has my name Mark Sarty at the bottom right and is framed in a vertical curved polished metal frame with a painted cloth white matt. The painting is approximately 30 inches wide by 60 inches high with mountains and snow reflecting onto a lake. The bottom of painting has a dead tree on a beach and the truck of the tree disappears into the lake. The colors in the picture are blues, greens, white and browns.
If the painting is returned, no questions will be asked. If someone else finds it's location, the police will get involved.

Color and Color Control by Mark Sarty

Years ago I painted this painting limiting the painting into two colors and the third, the white of the watercolor paper. This was an expariment in color control; my control.
I once tried to enter an art contest where one of the rules was that the artist could not use white paint in a submitted watercolor painting. When I read this rule, I did not submit a painting and did not ever try submitting work to that organization again.
Some artists teach other artists, not to use white, black, hookers green, some blue colors, or too use primary colors only in paintings. On TV an artist will used cobalt blue right from the tube, without mixing with other colors. If this rule can be broken, then any rule can be broken.
Art shouldn't be painted in limited palete unless the artist is limiting his or her self.
That's it, from this old artist.
