Autochthonic

When my wife saw the completed sculpture her comment was "After living someone for over 25 years, you'd think that you might know what they think, but I have no idea where this came from." Neither do I, but it definitely gets a reaction. The flip side has a different feel. The title, Autochthonic, refers to my discovery process of literally experiencing this piece evolving on its own. The definition of Autochthonic starts with the word native -- native to or sprung from the soil; aboriginal; indigenous and originating from the place where it was created. As an emerging artist working on this stone convinced me to stop trying to force myself to come up with an image beforehand; and be comfortable letting go of preconceptions to allow the creative process to discover new places on its own.
