Tharanga Herath About
I am a self taught wildlife artist who grew up with interest in birding and wildlife since childhood.
The passion towards bird watching and wildlife of Sri Lanka lead me to improve the capabilities of wildlife paintings to the present level. During the studies of wildlife and nature I used to take field notes and make field sketches especially in order to identify the species as well as to increase the knowledge of fauna of Sri Lanka. I started going to the field with few of my classmates who were nature lovers at the age of 13 or little earlier I suppose.
Later I became a member of the Young Zoologists' Association of Sri Lanka in 1995, Most probably the best organization for environmental education in the island. The organization holds annual exhibitions each Year and I took a part in almost all the exhibitions from 1998. In those exhibitions I had the opprtunities to share my skills with all other skilled artists.
After the completeion of secondary education from Nalanda College, I was able to obtain a degree in Fisheries and Marine Science, though not related to wildlife art.
I joined one of the best wildlfe tour expert groups, subsequantly after the great stay in Yala Village Hotel as the resident naturalist for more than a year, as a Natural History Tour Leader. In addition I have spare time to dedicate in doing paintings the most loving thing that I like to do.
