After weeks and months of feeling crappy from taking BP meds and working through it all anyway I needed to take time for me today. I call this painting "5 O'Clock Somewhere"
Our Labs favorite thing to do is jump in the pool after the tennis ball, but now I look at it and their eagerness inspires me. I've been doing the nothing is selling, nothing is good dance today.. and I think..wow..I'm doing what I love...just like Sammy and Fergus.
Almost time for Jeopardy..we all jump on the couch looking for space.…

I got caught up in birthday celebrations, anniversary celebrations, (all mine) and as one friend said I had "post party depression syndrome"
I've been having fun doing Lab Rescue work and my biggest surprise to myself is that I am finally charging what I feel I am worth. I do notice Im more particular with the way I work. There's a new pride. A whole new vibration.
So just wanted to share that today...Thanks for stopping.…

I did this yesterday for my saving a lab a day blog. I was excited because I wasn't expecting what was happening. It's an 8 _ 10, working quickly, and the eyes changed everything.
I was being conservative in the shadows but then found myself picking up color from my palette and striking here and there.
My friend came to visit with his 16 year old Lab and said one day while I was having an issue with the canvas and drawing." Just let it come out...There's a Lab there waiting to be seen!"
That's exactly what happened with this piece…

Wow, I need to rearrange to get everything I need to do done. I started the
http://savingalabaday.blogspot.com site and it's working. We're saving Labs (and selling). I did buy a dryerase board to write down the Lab of the day..That helps, a huge notebook to remember commissions and another to put down new ideas..hence..I'm feeling like a one armed paper hanger.
Not complaining..welcoming the challenges.
This is a painting of Brookline Lab Rescues "Anna Mae"
A couple of months ago I bid and got a commission to do 10 12 _ 12 squares of my dogs for a woman's playroom. She sent me the photos today of it all installed. I was thrilled, and then said.."I did those??" LOL..…

How do you generate interest in your art and serve was my question. I have over the years donated to Lab rescues through auctions, donating prints, etc. Now with the mind set of people it's been difficult to do that so I got the idea of starting yet another blog. The Saving a Lab a Day project.
I work with three lab rescues now and each day I will do a painting and post it on this new site. I am donating 70% to them and they are thrilled and advertise for me.

Thanks Caroline for letting me know the link wouldn't work. hmmm..

We'll try that. This one is Mocha. I LOVE chocolate Labs and this was so fun to do. Ineed to do a larger one. What a face. This is an 8_ 8 x 1 3/4 Gallerywrap.
Keep your fingers crossed for me I may have a Gallery refered portrait commission
Joined
Twitter.com and absolutely no idea what it is about.
This piece is a change of color in the Lab/ Instead of Pthalo blue and Alizerin I used Paynes Grey. Interesting response to it when I first put it on Ebay..None. People seemed to like the bright colors that I used.
Those little "Doubt Demons" have been chattering in my ear for the past few days. They appear every so often and chat about prices, Labs Vs. other work that people might like. That gets the brain going.."am I really doing what I'm supposed to be doing"? Of course I am...I'm miserable in a 9-5 "job". Am I painting what I'm suppoded to be painting?
Going to bed now...paint what you love Sheila
Just having some fun today. Took the Lab from one photo I had then took the photo of the chair from last weekend as my "pack" walked off without me. I thought for sure my Sophie would have come back to find me..…

I've been doing small quick paintings trying to find the perfect one for a larger piece. I think I would have liked to see more of her tail though. Ah..foreshortening 101...
Thinking I shouldn't have taken all of yesterday off..today has been a "where did I put that??" day. And of course when I walk around the house looking for the brush I just used for 15 minutes frustrated only to find I used it to keep my hair up. How did I remember? I bent over to hug one of the furkids and painted a stripe down the wall. Sigh.
Back to work.…

Today is my son's and granddaughters birthday. So I took the day off...felt guilty..but sat on the couch, snuggled with the Labs, Thought about what I'll do tommorrow, thought about what I should have done today. Blogged..so that was good. So was taking the day off.
The Wild Dog was a piece I did for an exibit for our local Brevard zoo. The orange was new to me in a painting but I wanted to feel that African heat. Different than my signature Pthalo blues. Hmmm.…

I take a zillion..yes a zillion photos of the Labs when we go to the dog park. I love how they sweep across the field. My oldest Sophie doesn't care to sweep with the boys so I brought a frisbee and she flew after it.
Love the Canon Rebel as it takes quick pics in a row so I caught Soph getting the frisbee and turning. I do smaller fast pieces for Ebay and I did this one today. I have a feeling this may be a larger, more refined piece. Thanks for stopping by…

Well our friends left for home today. Ray and his 16 year old Lab Mr. Shaq. We had such fun for two weeks..4 Labs in the house eyeing the couch and chaise. If Shaq got the couch then only one person could share, squeezing in on the end. If Roger and I got the couch first then we also had Fergus and Sammy. Ray had the chaise with Shaq, Rays feet over the arm and on an added stool. Sophie took the floor grumbling. The chaise is hers. Add wine and life is good.
Sunday is my sons birthday. For over a week now I kept thinling he was going to be 37. sigh. I was wrong..he's going to be 36!! I am renewed..I got a year back…

The client wanted the spirit and the action to show in the painting. I think he'll be pleased. 18" _ 24" _ 2" on linen. This is Mook!! What is a Mook??? Well a Mook is well a Mook. Among other things, Mook is a couch potato. One of the most cuddly of creatures and a real character…

This is the beginning of an 18" _ 24" piece. I thought it might be fun to show you the progress.
I spent the day working on commissions then started this. It's my Sophie. She was beside me at the dogpark and I took similtanious photos of her head movement.
I use a limited palette in my work, black Labs are Alizerin and Pthalo Blue, using white to play with highlights. It should be finished tomorrow…

So after our youngest Sammy jumped on me in bed this morning dropping his tennis ball beside my head then kissing me to wake up, I did.
They "watched" the house while I got a couple of tubes of Permalba at the art store. It's so juicy and fun to work with. Came home and did a 9" _ 24" gessoed panel of two dogs at the beach. Did finish a commission and now just have the lazies with the Labs. Not an overly product day but it was good…

So I've been working and having fun with company. Ray has actually become family with his 16 year old Lab Shaq. They came the other day to be here for the Shuttle launch but the launch keeps moving further away. They can stay..it's fun.
I did one small piece which was fun. This is one. It's on gesso Masonite board. Let me know what you think…
