Sonsoles Shack About
Sonsoles was born within a family of artists, in Madrid, Spain. From a very young age she showed an extraordinary ability to draw well, and was eager to learn from her mother, a painter and her father, a world-renowned sculptor. By day, Sonsoles is a molecular biologist at TGen, having worked in the field of cancer research for 25 years. An artist at heart, she has continued painting and studied at the Montpelier Arts Center in Laurel, Maryland, as well as plein-air painting with Amery Bohling in Arizona. Sonsoles' commitment for the fight in cancer research even spills out into her artistic life. In 2010 she donated a painting to be auctioned in the Tea for Teal fundraiser event for the fight of ovarian cancer (the Anne Rita Monahan Foundation). For the 2012 ARM Foundation Tea for Teal event, she has contributed with a portrait of Anne. In addition, at least 10% of all her profits are donated to a charity or cancer organization.
Her artwork was recently featured in an interview by Ana Trigo, an art consultant and writer from Spain. Sonsoles' oil paintings reveal her fascination with light and contrasts. Her still life and landscapes have been described as mysterious and poetic. Her portraits exude beauty and serenity. "My goal is to bring out the character and inner beauty of the sitter..."
