Helen Shideler About
Through the eyes of Canadian artist Helen Shideler, sunlight and shadows textures and details are captured through the transparent layering of colour. Shideler tends to spend much time and effort in exploring subjects on an intimate level getting to know her subject - striving to gather as much information as possible prior to beginning a painting. She gravitates to subjects whereby rich colour and light are of primary interest and the subject matter presents a degree of difficulty. Her first love is working with watercolor mediums, although she will often explore opportunities to represent a certain subject in alternate mediums.
Subject matter consists primarily of intimate floral and foliage paintings, nature, regional landscapes, shores, textures and portraits - as long as the subject presents rich colour and detail. Shideler paints in a style that is "high in realism while maintaining a painterly feel". Helen__™s work is based on personal experiences.
Her work is included in numerous public and private collections in Canada. She has been an active supporter of regional art organizations and shows in select invitational shows. She has nine solo exhibits to her credit and has participated in numerous invitational and juried shows throughout the Maritimes. Her work has drawn attention of collectors and she has been the recipient of recognition including best in show.
