A monochrome photograph of One World Trade Center, also known as the Freedom Tower, in lower Manhattan. As I took the picture, I noticed what appeared to be a pattern of crosses on the walls of the building. 0 comments

One of my photos is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Cell Chemical Biology. The article describes research into metformin, a drug derived from the French lilac (Galega officinalis), for the treatment of breast cancer. The research was done at the University of Minnesota, and was sponsored in part by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This is especially meaningful to me because my grandmother was a cancer research scientist. 0 comments

Another Sky - Salt Lake City

An urban abstract photograph of bright reflections of the sun and sky in puddles on concrete, left after an afternoon rainstorm.

A close-up square-format photograph of Rosa Dolce Vita. This beautiful hybrid tea rose has large double blooms of white petals edged in pink. Photographed at the Huntington Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California. Fine art prints available on acid-free paper, stretched canvas, acrylic (shown here), wood and aluminum.

A close-up photograph of beautiful burgundy red bearded irises (Iris germanica) blooming in my friend Tasha's garden.

This abstract photograph was taken at the top level of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia. It's a view between two glass walls that make up the top part of the facade of the building. The left wall reflects lights of the traffic on Broad Street below. At the top left is a bit of fuchsia roof lighting in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness; this photograph was taken in October. In the center of the image, the Atlantic Building can be seen outside a portion of the vaulted steel and glass roof. 0 comments

Taken on the High Line in New York City, this photograph shows a juxtaposition of an old brick building with the modern textured steel and glass structure adjacent to it. The modern building leans at a slight angle in to the High Line.

This monochrome photograph shows a view of the visitor-filled terraces of New York City's Whitney Museum. The museum's new building by architect Renzo Piano, located at the southern end of the High Line, was completed in 2015.

A close-up image of a bright red-orange Japanese Maple tree. In this fine art photograph a few of the leaves are reversed to show their bronze undersides.

A photograph of the exquisite silhouette of a Jacaranda tree against a blue and orange sunset sky in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.

The Salt Lake City Sports Complex served as the official training venue for the 2002 Winter Olympics. It's open year-round and I am lucky to be able to skate there almost every day. Last week I took a few photos while my teacher and I were fooling around. Processed in black and white to accentuate the sense of motion and the resulting ice spray.

A close-up photograph of an alstroemeria blossom in shades of pink. The morning sun at the Huntington Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California, highlights the beauty of this flower, also known as Peruvian lily. 0 comments

Here is a colorful square-format photograph of an unusual lilac pink Allium flower. Photographed in Queen Mary's Garden, Regent's Park, London, UK, the background of this image is a beautiful blurred mixture of the garden's green and purple flora. Hang multiple square works together or in combination with rectangular pieces to create an eye-catching art arrangement.

A close-up photograph of an orange-banded bumble bee pollinating lavender. Photographed was taken in Salt Lake City, Utah. I'm not certain which species this is as bombus huntii and bombus ternarius have almost the same coloration. My guess is that this one is bombus huntii (Hunt's bumble bee) because it has yellow hairs on its face where the b. ternarius has black.

This photograph presents a view of a verdant landscape traversed by horses on a June evening after a very rainy day in De Bilt, Utrecht Province, The Netherlands.

A close-up photograph of an unusually beautiful variegated tulip blooming in a Salt Lake City garden. Fine art prints of Purple and White Marbled Tulip are available here:

Two weeks ago I came across a woman finishing a portrait of Amy Winehouse on the wall of Boulangerie Le Mortier, at the corner of Vijzelgracht and Fokke Simonszstraat in Amsterdam's Centrum district.

This photograph of a large white/pink peony with a red and white bud nestled next to it was taken in 2009, in Middle Temple Gardens, Inns of Court, London, UK. When I went back to visit in 2014, I was sad to see that all the beautiful flowers had been removed from this section of the Middle Temple Great Garden. I have not seen another peony like this one since.

The Utah Pride Festival was held last weekend. Here is a photograph of motorcycles, a bicycle and baby carriage parked at the termination point of the Utah Pride Festival 2016 parade. One of the motorcycles is adorned with a pinwheel in rainbow flag colors, a symbol of LGBTQ pride. The Utah Pride Parade is held annually in downtown Salt Lake City, on 200 South, beginning at West Temple and ending at 400 East.

A close-up photograph of a beautiful young male Star Finch perched on moss covered rock at the Bloedel Conservatory in Vancouver, British Columbia. I am always struck by how the wonderfully bright colors of the birds and the tropical flowers blend to create such a cheerful atmosphere at this conservatory and aviary. Definitely one of my favorite places; I tend to spend a few hours each time I visit.
