Clytemnestra
  • Clytemnestra
  • Acrylic Painting | 24" x 60" x 2"
  • "Clytemnestra's Passion" is one of a series of four paintings entitled "Greek Women of Tragedy". These works speak to the trauma and possible resulting tragedy that can dramatically change one's life forever. Rooted in the Cult of Dionysos, specifically his female followers, the Maenads, these paintings address certain Greek myths in which particular women were struck by a precise moment of Maenadic madness as a result of some kind of trauma. Often the trauma was a betrayal such as incest, adultery, deception, unrequited love, or the untimely loss of a loved one. Instantly, their world is shattered and in a moment of madness they make pivotal life decisions that then lead to their tragic and often fatal destinies.
