Patricia Jenks Poured Paint I

Maenadic Whispers IV (framed)
  • Maenadic Whispers IV (framed)
  • Acrylic Painting | 30" x 24" x 2"
  • poured acrylic paint on canvas
  • One of the first in a series entitled "The Maenadic Cycle", these paintings are rooted in the Greek cult of Dionysus, the God of Wine, Fertility and Duality, and more specifically his female followers, the Maenads. Working with the contradictory nature of the Maenadic character which embodies forces ranging from gentle nurture through wild ecstasy to insane bloodlust and culminating in savage destruction, the Maenads echo the ebb and flow cycle of order and chaos within our own human lives and reveals our innermost desire to reconcile these dramatic opposing forces. These paintings are my interpretation of that cycle. "Maenadic Whispers" deals specifically with the gentle nurturing part of the Maenadic nature.

Spring Surge (unframed)
  • Spring Surge (unframed)
  • Acrylic Painting | 40" x 30" x 2"
  • "Spring Surge" is one of two paintings centered on the theme of Spring. Each year I am always incredibly moved by the fresh upsurge of new green buds, the bright colors and tenacity of the delicate flowers, and the varied richness and color of the soil itself. The fact that every Spring Nature grows herself anew again after a long, cold, hard winter is a mystery at which I cannot help but endlessly marvel. I felt a strong desire to visually give homage to this miraculous earthly yet spiritual drama of rebirth with these paintings.
