Jeanette Shihadeh, or the artist known as "Netsy", began making art as a child
while growing up in the Philadelphia, Pa area. She discovered that creating art
was a good way to express her thoughts and emotions that she otherwise couldn't express through words alone. As she became an adult, she realized she needed to be with like minded people. So she sought out an education in the fine arts, where other serious and devoted artists would help her to understand her need to explore the nagging desire to express herself visually. While working a fulltime job, she enrolled in Penn State University's night school to prepare herself to transfer fulltime to the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where she received her Bachelor of fine Arts in Painting and Drawing, and a certificate in Art therapy in 1992. Upon graduating from art school, "Netsy" immersed herself in non-profit activist work for nearly a decade, donating her art skills to the Uhuru movement, an organization that defends the democratic rights of the black community. This journey led her to move to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1998 where their main office is located. Since that time, "Netsy" continues to reside in St. Petersburg with her 12 year old son and chocolate lab, while still working on her first love, her art.
