Drawing in 'Shiny'

The burnishing of the etching plate continues... For the first post see here: http://artid.com/members/nancy_farmer/blog/post/5011/ This is my latest etching plate and I am adding in the highlights by burnishing the plate - the shiny parts of the plate will not hold ink, so when printed they will be the highlights.

I'm really liking the look of the plate so far, but it's fair to say that etching plates can look lovely, because of the quality of the metallic surface, and there is no way to be sure that they will make a decent and exciting looking print! It's just one of those annoying things about etching - you really have no idea how good (or otherwise) it is until the very last moment when you lift that paper off the plate and think 'Ah...' But, I persevere, nonetheless, because it's quite a lot of fun, when all's said and done. When it works, it's all worth it :-)

I will of course show you the results in due course...
