Before posting in my gallery and here at the ArtID site have for some time "previewed" the work to get honest opinions. Not all are as favorable and consider these to develop my techniques and composition for work. Of course never post the negative critiques (smile) and work hard to honor the favorable ones. Here are two comments on this work. by Chipka on Jul 12, 2010 5:14:59 pm [homepage] This is quite marvelous! I love the textured blue above the waterfall. I've just seen the repost of this piece and I have to say that I like both posts for differing reasons. This is quite sensitive, as is it's companion post (and others I've seen thumbnails to but have not yet commented on… Continue reading… 0 comments

Under the Sea

Topics: Mary Sonya Conti, fish, print, seascape, style, sunlight, turtle, under water, water

Mixed media of acrylic inks, watercolor and pastel. This piece is done on "hot press" watercolor paper. Each month there are themes chosen from a group artists site. This month's free theme was Under the Sea. Having started this piece with acrylic inks several months ago; it's been sitting there waiting to be developed. Knew could see clearly a fish hidden in the coral. As the announcement came pulled this out and felt more confident in proceeding with the composition. Textures suggested coral and seaweed floating beneath the surface. Use of pen and ink stems from the last workshop attended with Gerald Brommer as instructor at the Kanuga Conference 2010. Will be featured piece at the Cannery for May First Friday. Contact me if you wish to purchase… Continue reading… 0 comments

Turbulence

Topics: Mary Sonya Conti, Prints, sunlight, water, waterfall

watercolor on illustration board, unframed Horseshoe Falls from the Canadian Side This month's theme Is Turbulence. The power and strength of the rushing waters are viewed from the top of the Horseshoe Falls in Canada. Standing there with the water's mist and turbulent "fall" over the opening spellbinds ones. Found it very difficult to draw away from the edge. Water is one of our primary elements in living. Am contemplating putting a series together of these elements. Fire, Water, Air and Earth. This is also a departure from the series of winter scenes that start the New Year off with. Change feels right… Continue reading… 0 comments

We socially network, share, twitter, face book, and post. These have become popular vehicles to market our art. But are we really hitting home with these short sound bites? Do folks want more; do they get bored and click away? Thank you ARTID.COM and to all those who work so hard in making this both a resource and gallery that represents positively for the artist in me. You give me voice and stroke; my thanks at times are not enough. Also belong to another site: http://www.theartistchallenge.com where started this posting early this morn as the snow fell softly o're my world. For all the memories have wanted to share the inner felt emotion of this season to any who happen to cross my path along the way not with a piece of art but with my childlike memory share… Continue reading… 0 comments

have more work to do. May just add that solitary "deer" the grandson says he was sure he saw down at Cade's Cove in the Smokys. See need to adjust the grove of autumn splendor at the foot of the mountain and goes without saying more detailing on the branches at the lower end of the focal tree. More of the Autumn sun hitting the russet red in the tree as well. Lighten the mid ground area where the sun kissed the open landscape. Yelp...still not there. This is where add that "in the moment" feel to make it come to life. This will be the featured original for the December drawing. For every print sold an opportunity to own this original. It has to make them feel they are standing right within the mountains splendor… Continue reading… 2 comments

This particular work is now "on hold" What does that mean? If you truly understand the work it is meant to be yours. A layaway plan made it possible for it to go home with them (hopefully by the holidays). What is most important; it is going to the one meant to have it with unconditional love. Certain artwork that bears a stroke becomes a part of you and we find it very difficult to turn loose of that work. Had put off offering this piece until Late September. Even then thought will wait one more week. In answer, it is being purchased by the one had hoped would understand the need. For this I give thanks for the answer to a prayer… Continue reading… 1 comment
