Michael Schmotzer-MSmotz About
MSmotz graduated from Atlanta College of Art in 1974 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He studied under Ed Ross, Tony Greco,James Clover,amoung others.Smotz apprenticed with James Clover(sculpture) from 1973 to 1975 in Atlanta,Ga. He exhibited in several galleries in Atlanta including Nassau Visions, Aronson Gallery, Gallery Benigne, as well as the annual Callaway Gardens Invitational.
Moving to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1978, he worked for Spangenburg Studios as supervisor for theme exhibits and trade shows. Later for Industrial Signs as a designer.
In 1984 Smotz was a major player in the production of the "Louisiana" exhibit for the Louisiana Worlds Fair. He likes to call it the "New Orleans World Fair" and justifiably so.His involvement with the "Fair" did not keep him from excepting a contract with the United States Customs Office in New Orleans to repair, modify and maintain the exhibit"Fakery"which was an exhibit of forged and faked products ranging from Ray-Ban sunglasses to aircraft parts.He said:"These were some great highlights of my career."
Smotz and family moved to New Smyrna Beach(his home town) on the east coast of Florida just south of Daytona Beach.He worked for Daytona International Speedway Corporation(Facilities Department-sign production).
In 1997 Smotz established Marsch Studios with a partner producing urithane and polyester resin castings for architectural sign companies involved in high-end signage for cruise lines, theme parks, resorts,and hotels in Central Florida.
He has exhibited in the New Smyrna Beach Arts and Crafts Shows-1998,2000,2003 and has enjoyed selling his art over the internet.
His paintings and sculpure are in private and corporate collections in Fairhope,AL,Atlanta,GA, New Orleans LA and Orlando,FL,as well as selling giclee prints editions in markets across the U.S.
All work is museum quality.
He now resides in Lake Mary, FL north of Orlando and works in his studio dailey.
