When I was a child, there was a special store in our city. We always shopped there and thru the years we enjoyed going to the Fields store in Jackson, Michigan for it was so special. They had a resturant there called "The Rose Room". We spent a lot of time eating there. The food was always so good. It was a beautiful store. At Christmas time they would decorate all the windows with such elegant things. In those days, when there were no malls, everyone shopped downtown. The sidewalks were crowded with people. It was the place to go. It was on the mainstreet corner and I just really loved that store. Over the years, the malls opened up and everything changed. The business went to the mall stores, and my special store lost a lot of money. So as the years went by--the store had to be torned down. It really was hard to see it go. I watched the big rigs stalrt smashing it down. I went to the library and found an article about the store and how it had started. So this painting shows you a little bit of the progression. It shows the first store and then the "Rose Room" and the last in the painting shows you the end of a wonderful memory. We have never had a store like that again in our city. How sad that is.!!
