This hymn has always been one of my favorites. I painted this in watercolor to express this feeling I have about it. I also love lighthouses. The song goes like this: Brightly beams our Father's mercy From His lighthouse evermore. But to us He gives the keeping Of the lights along the shore. Chorus: Let the lower lights be burning, Send a gleam across the wave! Some poor fainting, struggling seaman You may rescue, you may save.
There are more verses. This was written by P.P Bliss in the 1800's. He was inspired by a sermon that he heard, about a ship that did'nt see the lower lights burning and crashed into the rocks. He says that we should be that lower light to save some seaman that is lost at sea. The Bible says in Matthew 5:14-16 Quote " You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven". So let the lower lights be burning. Milliegiftsmith/artid
