collage Technique

I love to do collage. This painting was started with an abstract design with nothing in mind. I started adding rice paper of various colors and different textured papers, including a lace doily and tissue paper, using Elmer's Glue--half water and half glue. I saw the shape of the bowl first and let some of the white paper show through to accent the bowl. The paper is 300 lb. After painting the bowl, I put in some fruit--pears using watercolor, and I used blue and green watercolor as well in the background. I also used acrylic paint, painting heavily on the white flower petals. I used metallic acrylics as well. All the collage materials I used contributed to the creation of a bowl of flowers. I even used some artificial stems to complete the bouquet. Some blue washes gave the finishing touch to the background and foreground. Check out my other work on ArtID. Millie

This one is a beauty, partly because of the rich palette and partly because of the loose treatment. Your description of the technique is very valuable.
