Margie Guyot About

A painter of plein air landscapes in NW Michigan and large, colorful still lifes in oil. Add Comment

Inspired by brilliant colorists Sorolla, Janet Fish and Tom Thomson, Margie is also tempered by the paintings of Clyde Aspevig and Scott Christensen. Because her high school art teacher scorned her for being in the band, she majored in music education, played sax in a road band after college, then worked on the Line at Ford Motor Company for 30 years. During free moments, Margie would paint in Detroit-area parks and fly to art workshops out West.

Set free at last by the Recession and subsequent closing of her factory, Margie retired from Ford and moved up to paradise in the wilds of NW Michigan, where she divides her time between doing plein air landscapes (even in raging snowstorms) and large, colorful still lifes. "They seem to balance each other out", she says. "It's nice to have a balance between the scorching sun, biting insects, freezing slush, ice pellets and the tranquility and bright colors of the studio".
