Margarita and Marigolds
by jonesmoore , November 20, 2008—12:00 AM
I have just completed this beautiful, vibrant mixed media and encaustic collage, using found objects and photos printed on canvas. It is my tribute to the spirit of the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos. I took the photos that I used in the piece in Oaxaca, Mexico during Dia de los Muertos.

Dia de los Muertos in Oaxaca Mexico

Hello all...this is my very first blog entry on the web. Here goes:
I've just recently returned from Oaxaca, Mexico, where I took a wonderful assemblage workshop with artist Michael deMeng. For 4 days, we (17 women and 2 men) drilled, hacked, glued and painted some pretty incredible cigar box shrines. Because we were there during the amazing Day of the Dead festivities, we even built our own offrenda (a personal 'group' shrine for each home and business in Mexico). On non-class days, we toured artisan studios, indigenous ruins and cemeteries all over the Oaxacan valley.
I took over 400 photos, some of which you can view at:
