The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center A Taste for the Modern Exhibition.
This past Sunday I had the pleasure of visiting Vassar College in my hometown of Poughkeepsie, NY. While at the campus I visited the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center and I was able to view A Taste for the Modern Exhibition. The exhibition is about Modern art collected and donated to Vassar College by alumnus Blanchette Hooker Rockefeller, Edna Bryner Schwab, and Virginia Herrick Deknatel. The exhibition has some beautiful works by Paul Klee, Mark Rothko, Henri Matisse, Francis Bacon, Yves Tanguy, Joan Miro, Ralston Crawford, Nobuya Abe, Genichiro Inokuma, Rufino Tamayo, Karel Appel, Bradley Walker Tomlin, Louise Nevelson, Larry Rivers, Pablo Picasso, Paul Cezanne, Georgia O__™Keeffe, John Marin, Edouard Vuillard, Pierre Bonnard, David Smith, Odilon Redon, and many others. I was very impressed with the large collection of John Marin__™s water colors on exhibit and my favorite work was a charcoal and hot pink lithograph titled ___Aztec Landscape___ created by Rufino Tamayo.
It is always such a pleasure for me to visit the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar College and I try to visit it several times a year. On each visit I learn something and feel that they do have one of the finest art collections in the Hudson Valley. I would highly recommend a visit to this beautiful Art Museum.
The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center is a teaching museum, major art repository, and exhibition space on the campus of Vassar College, in Poughkeepsie, New York, USA. It was originally founded in 1864 as the Vassar College Art Gallery. It displays works from antiquity to contemporary times. Vassar was the first college or university in the country to include an art museum as part of its original plan. The current 36,000-square-foot facility was designed by Cesar Pelli and named in honor of the new building__™s primary donor Frances Lehman Loeb, a member of the Class of 1928
