Ellenville, NY: Ellenville Public Library & Museum is proud to present______Art Evolution______ a special exhibition of 3 dimensional works by renowned artist Antonio Perez Melero. Multi-media constructions, his unique pieces engage the viewer in an exciting experience of image, perspective, and discovery.
Inspired in part by the patterns in nature, Perez Melero uses geometric principles, color and a deep sense of relationship to create intricate art pieces that play with the fundamental principles of light and movement. As the viewer travels in front of and around each work, it comes alive, offering 3 distinct pictures, by turns revealed and hidden, within one integrated whole. The images each have a meaning and beauty; taken together, the work demands our participation, and cultivates a sense of surprise and wonder. This is clearly intentional on the part of the artist. _____Viewers should interact physically with my constructions. They need to walk around them and view them from different perspectives. Up close one can see the detailed and intricate methods of their construction. From further back, one can appreciate their total effect."
Each piece is painstakingly created. Perez Melero__™s 3-dimensional constructions are built from wood, paper, canvas and acrylic paint. ___Their ideas evolve from an organic and intuitive process___, he says of his work. ___The final work is a combination of my creative vision and a highly organized process employing disciplines of geometry and applied design.___
The interaction of color and light are central to his work. ___Color is painted on pieces of wood attached to a high-contrast geometric background. Light penetrates between them, reflecting color from one to another and on the background. These reflected colors seem to mix in the air and produce an impression of others. As light sources change angle or intensity, and as the viewer moves around the work, new colors can be perceived even though they aren't really there. The interaction between color and light has produced an illusion. This relationship between color and light, in part, defines my work.___
Born in Spain, Perez Melero began his career in Venezuela where he lived from the late 1950's until the early 1980's. Maintaining workshops in Caracas and New York, his work is in many public and private collections, including the Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art, CANTV, Fundarte, the American Institute of Architects, Intel Corporation, the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and the Women in Military Service to America Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC. He currently resides in Accord, NY.
___Art Evolution___ will be on display at The Gallery Link, located in Ellenville Public Library & Museum, throughout the month of January 2011 until February 2. There will be an Artist__™s Reception on Saturday, January 22, from 12noon until 2pm. The public is most cordially invited to attend, and to meet Antonio Perez Melero in person.
