Biography

Howard Jacobs is an artist who works in all mediums. Although his favorite is oils using palette knives only, he also creates acrylics, serigraphs, watercolors, inks and pencils, which capture a broad spectrum of subjects. He also has created sculptures with Plexiglas.

In addition, he does commission work such as rendering of homes in pen and pencil. Then, he can create stationery and notes from these renderings. He can also create personalized notes and Xmas cards.

Among the many commissions he has done, one stands out above the rest. It involved creating an oil painting about the life of a Chicago police officer killed in the line of duty. His fellow police officers requested the painting, which ended up as a collage of the officer's many interests and love of life and was given to the widow and his family

After a WWII stint in the army, Jacobs attended the University of Illinois where he majored in architecture. He presently heads Howard Displays, Inc. He also is having time to do a great deal of painting since he is semi-retired.

He was born in 1925 in Chicago and raised in Highland Park where he now resides with his wife of over 40 years. His work in the fields of art and design have won national awards including one from Terry National Art Museum in Miami, Florida. His paintings hang in private homes, offices and restaurants coast to coast and in Europe.

This year has been a good one for his art. He has been accepted into several juried shows. East on Central has published one of his paintings in their 2007 book. A friend has been writing poems to go with his recent paintings and they hope to put together a book soon.

He also was juried into Celebrating Diversity 2007 in Highland Park. He will be interviewed next week for a Comcast show about local artists.

He juried into the Highland Park Art Walk where items were displayed in merchants windows. It was sponsored by Anatomically Correct and the Highland Park Business district.

He also was juried into Syncopated Art, an exposition of paintings by 3 North Shore artists in the lobby of the Apollo Theater in Chicago in August. This was also sponsored by Anatomically Correct. Anatomically Correct is sponsoring "All the World's a Stage Exposition" at the Apollo Theater continuing thru November 11th. He has two paintings there.

In addition, Howard had a one-man show at Summit Summit Ice Cream in Libertyville.
