Gail Easton About
I am a self-taught artist although my father was an artist as was his mother before him; and to carry the insanity even further all three of my sons exhibit talent. It seems to be a family trait that we all like to swim in the ocean of detail in our work…as well as a stern love of the ocean and the wild.
I began as an oil painter in the very late 60’s but after the birth of my first son switched to watercolor as a deterrent to the consumption of oil paint by my son. I prefer to work watercolor as drybrush. I studied egg tempera with William Thompson in the 70’s and later with Rudolph Zallinger and compete against myself with the medium.
My work encompasses many aspects of my current world but all pieces relate back to a drive or spark in the core of my being, always there is strong meaning for me behind the subjects depicted. I find that with this connection all senses are evoked; if I place my brush on a work done even long ago I can recall the scents, sounds, moments that were embraced with the act of painting. So on it goes.
