  • This picture was taken on Coronado Island,in Calif.(Near San Diego) It is of the Hotel Del Coronado,a very famous hotel that was built in 1888. and is still around today as majestic as ever. Known for the architecture;which was way ahead of it's time,it has been a favorite of many Presidents, and dignitaries throughout the world. The main hotel dining room is awesome to see. This hotel is a classic beachfront respite and has long been heralded as one of America's most beautiful beach resorts. It was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1977. Hollywood has been making movies at the Del since 1901,and in 1958 the Del was actually the backdrop for the comedy classic movie "Some like it hot" starring Marilyn Monroe,Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon. The Del has also played host to a myriad of American legends such as Thomas Edison,L.Frank Baum;(The Wizard of Oz),Charles Lindbergh, and Babe Ruth. Top of the list of my favorite things about the architecture of Hotel Del are the iconic red turrets that are totally spectacular, against the azure California skyline. I have another wonderful photograph of Hotel Del under my "Tree" gallery. It is called "The knarly one". I also have several others that I will switch out and post on ArtId from time to time~

It was taken on one of my favorite drives which is called the "17 Mile Drive"; leading to Pebble Beach where they hold the U.S. Open Golf Tournament. This area is totally captivating. The natural architecture;the lay of the land;the rocks and the water draw you in! This is a beautiful place to vacation~

  • When my older brother Marty passed away in 2008, one of his final wishes was to have his sons pick a special place where his ashes could be scattered to the sea. He felt that this way, he would be going back home. His last wish was fulfilled and afterwards his loved ones and friends led a procession down Zuma Beach,Calif. each planting their own small American flag in the sand in his honor. He was an American Vet!He is gone, but not forgotten.

  • If you ever get to Calif., you should try to make a special trip to Balboa Park, in San Diego. The park is lovely and their are a myriad of things that you can take pictures of, if you just open your eyes! Beauty surrounds you. I took this simple pix of a Terracotta planter with purple pansies because they reminded me of my Grandmother and my childhood!Purple was her favorite color and she grew pansies in her yard when I was small. Good memories!

Ludlow Mining 1882
  • Ludlow Mining 1882
  • Color Photography | 5" x 7"
  • While in California recently, I was passing thru Ludlow, a little mining town; on my way to a bigger place. I came across this old mining car #5, that I just had to shoot. 5 is my lucky number. Back in the late 1800's Ludlow, California was known as a true mining town and even today, there is memorabilia laying around everywhere that you can take a few good shots of if you are up for it... I wrote a Haiku to go with this photo~ Incidentally the Ludlow Cafe was a very pleasant place to eat. The people were courteous and kind, and I had some of their awesome homemade Pumpkin pie!! Yum Yum!
