"Hotel Del"

This picture was taken on Coronado Island,in Calif.(Near San Diego) It is of the Hotel Del Coronado,a very famous hotel that was built in 1888. and is still around today as majestic as ever. Known for the architecture;which was way ahead of it's time,it has been a favorite of many Presidents, and dignitaries throughout the world. The main hotel dining room is awesome to see. This hotel is a classic beachfront respite and has long been heralded as one of America's most beautiful beach resorts. It was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1977. Hollywood has been making movies at the Del since 1901,and in 1958 the Del was actually the backdrop for the comedy classic movie "Some like it hot" starring Marilyn Monroe,Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon. The Del has also played host to a myriad of American legends such as Thomas Edison,L.Frank Baum;(The Wizard of Oz),Charles Lindbergh, and Babe Ruth. Top of the list of my favorite things about the architecture of Hotel Del are the iconic red turrets that are totally spectacular, against the azure California skyline. I have another wonderful photograph of Hotel Del under my "Tree" gallery. It is called "The knarly one". I also have several others that I will switch out and post on ArtId from time to time~
