Commissions

I have looked around a lot for a good place to post an ad, blog, whatever, that pertains to commission sales. Because I have access to this site, I though it highly appropriate to put an "ad" here. Or, call it an announcement. I am very well-versed in all 2-D media and I have done numerous commissioned pieces over my professional career. As I track down more, I will put them in a special gallery. In the meantime, I did this piece for a Christmas present last year. Not only was the client completely overjoyed, but so was her husband. Blogs, blogs and more blogs

I am announcing that I have a new blog on wordpress, and I will start posting here, as well. More is....well, more exposure. More chances to get picked up by bing, Google, etc. The blog on wordpress is called artinsmallplaces (http://wordpress.artinsmallplaces.com ). It is in its infancy-barely three weeks old. So far, the blog is receiving support, though I have not garnered a ton of hits yet. It concentrates on art exhibits, especially those that might show up in random places (the smaller, the better), and my work. The series from which this small piece is also being introduced on WordPress as Art In Small Places. I have set up an individual Facebook page under Daryl-Ann Hurst specifically for these and the Puzzle series. I am also blogging on blogger.com. These tiny works are a continuation of the Puzzle series (the square pieces), and though they are based on the same grid, and are comprised of 16 squares, they are not cut apart and mounted on magnet. The origin of the Puzzle pieces were maquettes that were designed to sell larger pieces. These are simply small jewels that are created as person al expression 0 comments

As we rapidly approach the holiday season, two rather oddly juxtaposed things happen:(1)people become more generous and buy gifts, (2)people become thieves. I always enjoy this time of year because I do work on commission, so I can create work that can't be -manufactured. I also really enjoy having painted, or drawn or beaded the "perfect" such-and-such for somebody's Aunt Ruby. Of course, let's be real, I also enjoy the influx of income. In retail, I learned that this is also a greatly heightened period for scams of all kinds. This is also a higher shoplifting, wallet-snatching, etc. season.
