This paintings composition was inspired by a Bernini Statue of Daniel and a Peter Paul Rubens painting of Daniel in the Lions Den. I always love the epic scape of a Rubens paintings because of the s-shape compositions that derive from Michelangelo. Thank goodness I found that book of Bernini statues at my college library otherwise I might haven't been inspired to create the composition in color pencil before transferring it to canvas. I also was aided during the painting process by my master oil painting teacher Mark Menendez who coached me through the process of bringing this painting to life through contrast and his art techniques.
