Biography

Acrylic Paintings in 3D __" Whimsical, magical, spiritual __" these are some of the words that collectors use to describe the paintings of Cathy Chong.

Her unique painting style communicates a lyrical and mystical vision of nature that is illuminated with a bold color palette and an exciting intensity of light. This is accomplished with multiple layers of abstract geometrically shaped brushstrokes creating a sense of texture and depth. Cathy has discovered that these layers of color are visually enhanced when viewed with special 3D glasses and shows them with her paintings as a fun aspect. Her work is shown regularly in solo and group exhibitions throughout Connecticut and is represented in both private and corporate collections.

Cathy also enjoys experimentation with mixed media work. For a solo show entitled, ___The Art in Golf___ she created a mixed media collection of painted golf balls and equipment joined together to create sculptures, some of it interactive. She continues to create mixed media and interactive works of art and was commissioned by the Greater Hartford Arts Council to complete two projects for the United Arts Campaign for 2000 and 2002. She was also commissioned to decorate one of the cows for the 2000 New York City Cow Parade. Her mixed media work has been featured recently on WFSB-TV Channel 3 News, and has been reviewed in a variety of publications: Avon Life, Journal Inquirer, The Hartford Courant, and Art New England.

Cathy received a degree in Fine Art from Lehigh University and was honored with the school's Fine Art Award. She is also a recipient of an Individual Artist Fellowship Grant from the Greater Hartford Arts Council in the year 2000. In addition to painting, Cathy teaches students in Hartford during the summer. She is affiliated with Connecticut Women Artists and is an active member of several other local Art Organizations. She currently lives and runs her studio in Avon, CT.
