Hung Art Show
by CarolynWeltman , September 12, 2010—10:26 AM
Gitana Rosa Gallery
Presents: HUNG
Checking Out the Contemporary Male
Opening Reception: Friday, September 17, 7-10PM
September 17 -- October 16, 2010
To kick off the fall season, Williamsburg's Gitana Rosa Gallery, refracts the male gaze.
Hung, a multimedia exhibition, hones in on the male nude. A heroic figure in Greek, Roman and Renaissance art, the male nude proves more fascinating than ever. Whether it is relegated to obscurity or exalted past recognition, men's bodies continue to challenge both men's and women's perceptions.
Love them or hate them, Hung's male nudes tease the line between the sensuous and the glaringly obvious to present a nuanced portrait of the contemporary male…

A Homage to Curvy Women
by CarolynWeltman , July 6, 2010—12:00 AM
Yesterday I added a new gallery to my studio. A Homage to Curvy Women celebrates women's bodies and their beautiful curves. I've always loved to draw larger women, they remind me of voluptuous landscape. Hills and valleys.
Woman historically have many issues with their bodies, be they small or large, fat or thin, long-legged, short-waisted. I find all of you quite beautiful. However there have been women (and men) that I've not wanted to draw or paint. Its about who they are and not what they are.
And in case the men are feeling left out, I'll be adding a gallery for you soon. Interestingly, I do find larger women are more open to being drawn than larger men.
Enjoy my large and lovelies. I'll be happy to hear what you think of them. You'll find them right here ..…

Don't Give Up the Artwork Until it is Paid For
by CarolynWeltman , July 2, 2010—12:00 AM
I do normally try to keep my blogs positive, however sometimes a person just needs to vent.
During my career as an artist, I've been disappointed many times by galleries who refused to return my work; people who have reneged on sales; and so many others who in some way or other, took advantage of my being an artist to disrespect that this is my career. I've come to understand that many people have a twisted view of the value of an artist's work.
I've learnt to deal with knowing that "no matter what!" people will steal my images off the internet and even in some instances, claim them as their own. I've learnt to move on and I've also "toughened up"…

Put On Your Red Dress, Baby - nude female
by CarolynWeltman , June 23, 2010—12:00 AM
ALL PRICES INCLUDE SHIPPING
I painted my lovely model, Lili all dressed up in her red dress straight onto the paper. Lili had bought a cd in the subway on the way over to the studio. The Stumblebum Brass Band. I tied her up in her red dress and turned up the music. Lili danced in place throughout our session. Her beautiful bottom bouncing in time to the music. You can see her dancing, can't you? The original painting was on exhibition at the National Arts Club in NYC in February 2009 and the limited edition print was recently on show at Parlor Gallery, Asbury Park. NJ and is being shown at The Dirty Show in Detroit, IL later this month.
Original oil, watercolour, nail enamel and gesso on 100% cotton rag. Framed beautifully in a wood and brass frame…

She Flies Through the Air - female nude
by CarolynWeltman , June 19, 2010—12:00 AM
She Flies Through the Air was named after that wonderful song, "she flies through the air with the greatest of ease, the daring young girl on the flying trapeze ..."
My model, Beth stayed in this pose for a whole hour for me as well as doing two other poses during the same session. One of which was a complete inversion. She's so dedicated, don't you think?
This piece is also available as an open edition prints in smaller sizes and I also have the original drawing for sale. Please contact me for more information.
Price includes shipping charges…

Arts de Valentine a Rip Roaring Success ...
by CarolynWeltman , March 4, 2010—12:00 AM
On Valentine's Day this year, Birmingham, Alabama hosted their very first Erotic Art Exhibition complete with belly dancers, (they were fabulous) masks, flashlights and most importantly, some really wonderful artwork. Leo Ticheli the organiser of this innovative event, unsure if he'd be run out of town or not, courageously rounded up his artists from both the immediate area and some of us from further afield to put together this event.
Having been invited to attend and given a special mask to wear, I just as courageously headed south with a few of my paintings and drawings to lend a New York touch to the affair.
The event brought in probably about four or five hundred people, we even witnessed a line at the door to get in…

My World of Erotic Art - part 1
by CarolynWeltman , February 28, 2010—12:00 AM
The day I decided to become an artist, I decided to do what is art.
My decision to explore erotica and/or pornography in my painting and drawing was based on wanting to provide a message of acceptance and tolerance for one another. No judgements. One of the hardest lessons for us all to absorb. In my work I strive to demonstrate tolerance of self. Our bodies, minds, souls are to be honoured.
Regardless of whether its Fine Art or Erotica or what some consider pornography that we're talking about, both are created from my time on earth, from my soul, my heart and my intellect, my sexuality and my physical being. To me, creativity is all of those things interwoven and working together…
