Now I have to finish it

Topics: Still Life, making art, pastel

I wrote about this pastel still life a while back. It had been sitting for a while as I was so busy with helping rebuild the Lodi Art Center gallery and working on other projects that I was not putting much time into it. I grew weary of re-assembling the set up every time I needed to use the weights.

As you can see, I've been working on it again, based on memory rather than arrangement or photo. The angles of the top red weight were all wrong. I've lots of details still to work out, and I think I need to mute down those books in the background a bit. However, all in all, I like the way it is coming. I've entered it in an upcoming show (the send entry form early and bring work later sort) under the title "Accidental Still Life". Now, I am under deadline to finish it, assuring I won't dawdle about.

Hi Caroline- Thanks for the posting and I like your new photograph of the artist. The books look good in the background but I know what you mean about thinking about muting them. What is the Lodi art gallery, sounds like a good cause? I took my first sketch hike (your idea) last weekend to the park and enjoyed it, I just couldn't sit still inside because of the fine weather. Good luck with the deadline- Zander

Ahhh...the creative influence of deadlines! Here's hoping that finishing the drawing goes smoothly and without further interuption or distraction. And if you're anything like me you'll likely have a few late nights ahead of you. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with those marathon evenings of creative sprinting! Hopefully you won't be plagued by too many of those. Keep us posted!
