All the things I've ever been and done have a way of popping up in my art. Long before becoming an artist, I was a publishing writer, and many of the same images and titles that belonged to my poems have shown up in some of my paintings. I've loved nature from the days of girlhood berry-picking and wildlife-watching rambles, and nature provides subject matter for many of my paintings.

My education was in English literature, and I taught English for many years. I was able to retire from my secondary school language arts teaching career in June, 2007, so I no longer have to "steal" painting time at 5 a.m. or during school breaks. I am what is often called a "self-taught" painter, but I owe a great deal to workshop teachers, art demonstrations at art club meetings, the masters whose work is in museums and the finer galleries, the authors of art books, the articles in art magazines, and judges' critiques of art competitions.

It is my good fortune to belong to a family of art lovers including a son who makes sure people know about my work and sometimes accompanies me to art openings, and a daughter and son-in-law who are also artists. My biggest fan in art and everything else was my husband of 50 years who died in August 2013 My art affiliations include the Lodi Community Art Center and the National League of American Pen Women.
