carla mele About
I have always been interested in colour, form and texture. Even before I was consciously aware of it, architecture, textures, colours, fashion all caught my attention, like a private runway for myself, to muse over what was out there in the world around me. I have always, thankfully, kept that childlike wonder alive, both in my head and on canvas and paper. I was ___sketching and doodling___ before it was ever an actual avocation. I evolved into an artist as I did little assignments for friends and acquaintances. I hear people list schools and art studios, or some conscious decision along the way. I was painting and building a portfolio before I decided to seriously construct a studio in my apartment.
In terms of my education, I studied analytical philosophy in grad achool for four years. I had been interested, first, in mathematics and, then, primarily, in psychology, which I carried on in my studies of the philosophy of mind and where the mind and brain overlap and are independent of each other. I remember this elective course in college I attempted in oil painting in which the teacher told us not to do anything realistic since we would never be Rembrandt's. Having no clear voice of my own at a very young age, but without any regrets, I found I was teaching myself both painting and writing and continue both to this day.
Here I am in my middle years, working on websites and doing assignments, designing what I refer to as ___improv___ art as I take on these requests from clients. I did finally have a solo show in late 2006 where the reception was overwhelmingly gratifying.
I now move to a promising future and only regret not having photos of some of my paintings done earlier, whether a seascape, landscape, picture of the city or that of s statuesque horse winning its first race. My subjects run the gamut due in large part to my love of abstraction which underlies all those scenes I have mentioned or others that I have painted or sketched.
Please enjoy my work, clicking on the individual piece to see it fully and by its lonesome. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have taken pleasure in doing them.
