ST. CUTHBERTS MILL-INVERESK PLC!IMAGE37!
St. Cuthberts Mill which is the only commercial papermill now surviving near Wells in Somerset, England is the result of a long history of papermaking in that area. The first papermill at that site was a hand operation that took advantage of the very pure waters of the River Axe which supplied power used for the papermaking process.
Through various owners and numerous papermakers the handmade production slowly converted to the mouldmade process on one of the first cylinder mouldmachines in England. St.Cuthberts, now owned by the lnveresk Group of Papermakers is one of the world's largest suppliers of archival papers specifically designed for the fine art market. They also produce some oversized sheets by running one of the largest machines that can make paper up to 60" wide.
Although most of the papers are made of 100% cotton such as Somerset and Saunders Waterford, St. Cuthbert's makes archival grades of paper from 100% sulphite as well. Legion paper is pleased to have worked with Inveresk to develop the expanded line of Somerset printing, digital, watercolor and drawing papers, and is their exclusive distributor in the United States.
