Linda Slasberg About

Self taught and unorthodox, I paint what I love, the Southwest, Native American symbolism, basically whatever moves me. Add Comment

Linda was born and raised and spent most of her life in a suburb of London, England until 1996 when she and her late husband emigrated to the United States.

Why do I create art? That's a good question, one that I have been asked more than once and have asked myself more than a few times. Very basically I love it; its fun. I don't take myself too seriously although that doesn't mean that I don't take care with my art, I do of course.

Mostly self taught although I attended an art club for a while where I learned some valuable lessons - I create my artwork when I have the inspiration to do something specific. I don't paint every day unless I have something I am working on that excites me. It has to mean something to me. I do not take commissions, mainly because usually I can only create a piece of artwork one time. Rarely can I repeat it. I paint for me and me alone.

It all started with making beaded jewelery about 8 years ago, after I lost my husband to Cancer. I needed something to do!! That probably sounds very strange to most people when they more than likely have too much to do!! For myself I am now over 60 and live by myself, in the middle of nowhere and do not drive!!!

Creating art for me virtually saved my sanity. It has enabled me to become more aware of my surroundings and my Spirituality. I have become a calm and peaceful person largely because of it. Although I am cut off from life, I love where I live, high on a hill with wonderful mountain views, it's quiet and peaceful.
