Diane Plasse About

Diane was born in 1955 in Montreal and has been in Edmonton since October 2004 in order to be close to her two sons, grandsons and daughter-in-law. She is a versatile contemporary artist (encaustic painting, illumination, stained-glass-mosaics). She is interested in non-traditional techniques and spontaneous creation. She has been artistically active in fashion design since age 9, beginning with the help and supervision of her mother. She won first prize in a murals contest at age 14. Add Comment


Her principal characteristic is to remain in constant awareness of new developments in herself, the world around her and the visual arts. She has always maintained a two-fold career as an artist and denturist all the while studying social sciences.

She studied art in various Montreal schools: Universit__ de Montr__al, L__™atelier du geste, Centre Saydie Bronfmann. In 2004 she received a private bursary to study under Karen Thomson, professional artist from West Montreal. At this time she finishing a certificate in Fine Arts at the U of A.

Picasso fascinates her because of his exuberance, his boldness, his life and his character.

Since 1975 she has led workshops in art and creativity for the Scouts of Montreal. She conducts adult and children's courses, private and semiprivate, in her workshop on topics ranging from sewing, mosaic painting or stained glass. She teaches creativity, techiques of sgraffite and mosaic at the Centre D'Art Visuels de l'Alberta (Edmonton).
