Alaskan Native Contemporary Mixed Media Wolf Medicine Mono-type shaman healing
This is the Wolf mask of the series. The “Medicine” series images represent our traditional medicine as applied by the medicine person or Shaman. In this print, the medicine man wears different masks for healing or applying various types of spiritual medicine. The transparent mask images are of actual large three-dimensional masks made by the artist, which represent a window in time. The images have the Kuskokwim Mountains in Southwestern Alaska in the background and have a symbol looking like the letter “F” (used to mark harpoon heads) as a place reference. This was the symbol used to indicate the location of Grandfather's village. The red in the heart represents the spirit and bloodline of the Yup’ik peoples. The images of the people printed on custom-made paper are drummers around a large drum, which would have been used in ceremony. The artist is actually one of the drummers in the image. The mask in each print is an image of a large mask sculpture made by the artist. FRAMED! The unframed print will be sold for $1200.00
