Who Will Fill Their Shoes?
Last Sunday I had the honor of attending the Colegio Nacional de Periodistas de la Rep_blica de Cuba en el Exilio, Delegaci_n New York - New Jersey Annual Banquet. My friend Arturo Alvarez sponsored me for membership in this great organization and I am very proud to be a member. I could not help but notice that my wife and I were the youngest couple in attendance. The rest of the members were older and some were my fathers age and older. I thought to myself who will continue on this great legacy that has created so many distinguished and legendary people. That question I have often asked of myself at other times and events as my fathers Odd Fellows lodge reunions, and other award celebrations I attend throughout the year…

IF YOU WISH YOUR ART PURCHASE KEPT A SECRET DON "T TELL ANYONE !
Just recently I had to delete a post here on ArtId because the collectors that purchased my work wanted to keep the purchase a secret. It all started simple enough. Three of my paintings were purchased and I was told by the gallery owner that they were purchased by a new museum that was going to open in downtown NYC. Later I was given a museum name that I posted on my blog site because I thought the information was reliable and important. Soon after that I received a phone call telling me it was not purchased by the museum but by the owners of the museum and I was given their names…

My Art is all about God my Family & Friends.
In the past few years I have had a great deal of success and I have to thank God, my family and friends for all of it. I am glad to have had the opportunities to have met many legends in the Art World. Some are no longer with us, but because of the impact that they have had on my life they will always be in my heart and I think of them often when creating my work. Peter Bloch, John Hultberg and Robert Graham are among my Heroes in the art world and I will never forget them. My parents did not own any paintings when I was growing up as we were more into family activities like going to the park every weekend and long vacations in Florida during the summer. Still I did go to the Metropolitan Museum of art during a class trip in grade school…

I did not find out that Robert Graham had passed away till I turned the page in Art News magazine in March of 2009 to see that he had left us on December 27, 2008. To me he was a Hero and a Great Gentlemen not to mention the Best Sculptor ever. I had seen him only a year before and he was strong happy and so full of life, I thought he would last forever. I got to speak with him about his Sculpture and thank him for His Book that he had sent me in 2006. I love his work and I feel it is full of emotion and wonder just as us humans are. His work is very beautiful but Robert Graham was even more beautiful in his approach to life and how he treated everyone around him, He was Solid Gold…

I painted the Wolf at the Door in 2007 before the economic meltdown but during a time when I felt the country was in a recession and things would only get worse before they got better. You see the Wolf at the Door is my Wolf not America's and I know him well. Over the years I too have had cycles of ups and downs and times of extra cash and also short of cash. Still I have managed to beat back the wolf at the door many times and have grown stronger from the experiences. I know America will bounce back soon and all Americans will once again live in the land of plenty, hopefully we have all learned a bit from this experience and will be better prepared for the next down cycle that will inevitably come again…

I would like to believe that I create Cuban-American Contemporary Art. The Ideas come from my Mind & Heart. My colors depict the sense of happiness I feel in the world around me. My paintings are created with hard work and time and I use only the best materials. I stretch my canvas, and make my own stretcher bars. I also weld my own galvanized frames and polish them as well. My paintings are bright and full of energy. I have good sales and my art events attract several hundred guests and these events are more like a house party, then a fancy Art Opening. My family and I provide our guest with Cuban & Italian Food and I hire a band "Orchesta de Los Taino" to entertain our guest. You see coming from a Cuban Family you learn to enjoy parties and celebrations throughout your life…
